DIGITAL RETINAL IMAGING

Digital imaging has made optical photography so much easy, no messy films to process and instantly available images!

We recommend retinal imaging on a regular basis to help us monitor even the most minor changes in your eyes.

Imaging is quick and completely painless as there is no contact made with the eye.

A healthy retina

Ideally the first image will be taken when you have young and healthy eyes as this will act as the bench mark against which subsequent images will be judged. Those with a pre-existing problem will also benefit as the comparisons between images will enable us to judge exactly how much has changed.

A close up of the optic disk

You can see a close up of a healthy retina to the left. The pattern of the blood vessels and the shading of the background is completely unique to each individual just like a finger print.

Retinal imaging is used extensively in patients with diabetes where it is used to detect and monitor diabetic retinopathy.

Diabetic screening is available through the National Health Service those us fortunate not to be diabetic have to pay a small fee for the imaging, but what price peace of mind?

Ask us about getting your eyes imaged. For a small fee to cover the cost we can also give you a print of your own retina to hang on your wall - Truly a work of art with a difference.
