DIGITAL CORNEAL MAPPING (TOPOGRAPHY)

Topographers are used mainly, but not exclusively, in contact lens fitting. The camera uses sophisticated computer programs to generate both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional models of the cornea.

These “models” provide detailed information that allows us to fit the contact lens with great accuracy. Through out your ears of contact lens wear we can refer back to our original images to assess how the lens is fitting and whether or not it is causing any corneal disturbance.

Topography really comes into its own when fitting complex corneal shapes such as keratoconus, failed refractive surgery or high astigmatisms.
